I am constantly looking for ways to embody a healthier version of myself and I find adding healthy habits - gifts that keep giving for years to come are one of the best ways. Eat Fresh and Local Food that’s in Season! 🍍🫐

Visiting your local farmers market, finding an organic co-op that delivers or allows for pick up, or if you're blessed to live in a location that they sell local fruit from their land straight off the tree or from the earth. In Mexico for instance, a man or woman will fill their truck with local fruits, or sell them right outside their front door.  Right now it's the most wonderful time of the year... mango season! It's also pineapple season, trucks full of fresh pina de miel... honey pineapples fresh and glorious, they smell so delicious. It's also peach season, pitaya season (a cactus fruit), lychee season and so forth. We found a local farm that offers organic lettuce, spinach, carrots, nopales and more. I found a local woman who makes homemade vinegar. I realize other countries still follow the seasons and often we've lost sight of that but even in bigger stores like Trader Joes I notice seasonal fruits coming and going. Try to choose that which is in season, try to support the locals, try to eat fresh. Think fresh, colorful, in season and local if possible and not only taste the difference but feel it.

Eat frozen fruit for dessert!🍓🍌

I love to buy an abundance of fruit and then eat some fresh, and then cut it into bite size pieces and freeze it for a late night treat. I love watching a movie and munching on freshly frozen fruit. You can buy the local fruit in season and freeze it, or get your favorite kinds. You can even blend it into a sorbet. Lately I just eat it. You can add honey, cinnamon or chili, making it fit your desired flavor palette. What do you do with very ripe bananas? Peel them first, put them in bite size pieces and freeze them. If you freeze them on a plate separately it's easier to consume so they don't all stick together. Frozen blueberries with honey (optional cinnamon) is absolutely delightful. Since blueberries aren't really a local treat here, I do other fruits. I even tried frozen pitaya - it's fantastic. Frozen papaya. Frozen pineapple. Frozen mango is delicious. I slice the sides, cut the fruit into chunks and scoop it out, freezing those. Then I remove the skin from the middle part surrounding the seed - and freeze that - it makes a popsicle if you will that you can munch on, delicious. Frozen fruit of many kinds offer a healthy and tasty alternative to a pastry, cake or ice cream. It is healthy, has natural sugar vs. way too much refined sugar and is very delightful. Do you love frozen fruit? What's your favorite?

Drink Water with Lime and Salt to stay hydrated 💦

Adding lime (or lemon if that is in season where you are) and a tiny amount of salt creates a hydrating beverage. It is full of minerals and electrolytes that are natural vs. buying a drink loaded with food coloring and sugars among other ingredients. This is two ingredients, all natural and delicious too! I find I drink way more water now because I'm looking forward to how refreshing it is and how good it makes me feel. You can even add a small pinch of baking soda for an alkalizing drink. The combination of lime and salt in your water can help improve digestion and help you absorb more nutrients, it helps you avoid dehydration, it's rich in antioxidants and vitamin C which is great for an immune booster. Cheers to that!

Add movement – walk or bike as a form of transportation or visit a park. 👣🧘

Leave the car behind and try to walk to your destination. If you live in an area that's not a possibility, go to a local place you can walk or bike. Getting more movement, fresh air, clear your mind and listen to the birds. I live in Mexico where walking is a part of the culture, it's common to see people walking to where they want to go to - obviously many use their car, motorcycle or scooter - yet opting to walk instead helps you see things you wouldn't have seen, stumble upon locations you may have missed or just passed by. Walking even for only 30 minutes is good for your cardiovascular health, can strengthen your bones, reduce excess body fat, boost endurance and clear your mind. I once noticed my state of mind at the start of my walk to my state of mind at the end of my walk and I had processed the noise and was feeling so much better by the end of the walk. Walking is the best because it's low impact and doesn't take equipment. Prefer biking? Hop on and enjoy the ride. It also has the benefits listed above and is fun for your inner child. We have this one body to enjoy so taking small steps to make it healthy pays back and provides a healthier temple to live in. Yoga, Qi-Gong, Tai Chi, Pilates are also low impact forms of movement that improve your state of being and are great for your body.

Explore new locations in your local area.🌲

Try to make a goal to visit local areas. You don't have to fly to Bali, although that would be divine, you can explore your own backyard. Is there a park you have always wanted to visit or even a coffees shop? Try to find an excuse to get out and see what is there. Maybe a walk along a waterway, maybe it's something you used to do but haven't done in a while. Maybe a trip to a pool or hotel you can visit for the day. Or to the local mountains or a river. Stop to smell the flowers and maybe put one in your hair. Try to find a reason to explore, for you never what journeys, adventures, people, smiles and good days are ahead of you when you go. Leave your comfort zone behind and explore! You can make it inexpensive or go all out. Going alone or with a friend or family member. If you don't have anyone to go with, I encourage you to go alone. Be safe of course, but getting comfortable with yourself is a huge gift and takes away limiting beliefs that you can't do it because you don't have someone to go with. I find it wildly empowering and enjoyable. Going with others creates a dual adventure, one for you and for them and creates beautiful memories. Taking the whole family is sure to make the kids happy and probably you too. Live your best life today! Why wait.
